How to choose the right carbon fiber powder?

Selecting the appropriate carbon fiber powder requires a comprehensive consideration of multiple factors such as application scenarios, performance requirements, and process adaptability. The following is a detailed selection guide:

First, clarify the application field and core requirements

The performance differences of carbon fiber powder directly affect its performance in different scenarios. It is necessary to determine the application first:

Industrial manufacturing (such as plastic/metal reinforced, friction materials) : Focuses on mechanical properties (tensile strength, modulus), dispersibility and cost.

In the field of conductivity (electromagnetic shielding, battery electrodes, sensors) : Conductivity (resistivity) and purity are given priority.

Thermal management (heat dissipation materials, high-temperature resistant coatings) : Focus on heat resistance, thermal conductivity and chemical stability.

2. Mechanics and Functional Performance

Tensile strength/modulus: High-performance carbon fibers (such as T700 grade) have a strength > 2400MPa and a modulus > 230GPa, making them suitable for high-strength composite materials. Industrial grade (such as T300) offers better cost performance.

Conductivity: Resistivity as low as 10⁻⁶Ω · m or less (such as highly graphitized carbon fibers), suitable for electromagnetic shielding; The resistivity of common carbon fiber powder is approximately 10⁻³Ω · m and it is used for general conductive filling.

Thermal stability: It can withstand temperatures above 3000℃ in an inert atmosphere, but it is prone to oxidation above 400℃ in an air environment. Coating protection (such as nickel plating or silane treatment) should be selected based on the usage temperature.

Coatings/inks: They need to match the dispersibility, particle size and substrate compatibility to avoid agglomeration affecting the uniformity of the coating.
