The carbon fiber is a fiber material having a carbon content of more than 95%, and is obtained by carbonizing an organic fiber such as polyacrylonitrile, viscose fiber or pitch fiber at a high temperature. Essentially, it is an allotrope of carbon. According to the classification of mechanical properties, carbon fiber can be divided into three categories: standard modulus (about 230GPa), medium modulus (280~350GPa) and high modulus (>350GPa). According to the classification of fiber tow, it can be divided into small tows ( Or standard tow, ≤24K) and large tow (>24K); according to different precursor classification, polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber accounts for 92% of total carbon fiber, pitch-based carbon fiber accounts for 7%, and adhesive base Carbon fiber only accounts for 1%.

Excellent carbon fiber performance, with excellent properties such as corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance and no rust. However, due to the poor lateral impact resistance and poor wear resistance, carbon fiber is often added as a reinforcing material to resins, metals, ceramics, concrete and other materials to form composite materials. Among them, resin-type composite materials are produced most widely and are widely used.

According to incomplete statistics, as many as 45 companies have participated in carbon fiber investment, and invested nearly 30 billion yuan in 2017. However, until 2015, China's carbon fiber market began to enter a rational development, major carbon fiber companies began to broaden their perspective, upstream and downstream, and the domestic carbon fiber industry is forming a new situation.

In 2017, China's carbon fiber production capacity reached 26,000 tons, the actual output was about 7400 tons, and the sales/theoretical capacity ratio was 28.5%, which was a significant increase compared with 2016, but still lower than the international average of 57.3%. Mainly China's industrialization and commercialization level is limited, and there is still room for improvement compared with the global average.
